Julien Merceron, Former Konami Technology Director, Joins Bandai Namco
Last time we saw Julien Merceron, he'd left Konami after they ceased development on triple A games—and, presumably, the Fox Engine that Merceron had headed. But apparently he's not going on to work with Kojima at his new studio. Instead, he's joining Bandai Namco to develop "core technology for contents and production pipelines for various platforms," whatever that means. And I guess the Fox Engine will just sit at Konami, never to be used for a game again.
Steam Accidentally Exposes Personal Information on Customers
If you used Steam on Christmas, you might be a bit worried by this news. A configuration issue on Steam's caching servers meant that anyone logged in to Steam was viewing pages rendered for someone else's account. The information on these rendered pages included phone numbers, addresses, real names, PayPal email addresses, and the last few digits of users' credit card numbers. Steam took their usual approach to public relations and just decided to say nothing, until finally releasing a statement the day after.
Call Jeremy Irons' Voicemail, Thanks To The Assassin's Creed Movie
Have you ever wanted to call famed British actor Jeremy Irons' voicemail? Well, thanks to the Assassin's Creed movie (yes, that's happening), your odd and incredibly specific dream can now be a reality! The movie's official twitter account posted an image of the business card of Jeremy Irons' character in the movie, and you can call the number on it and you can receive a pre-recorded message from the actor saying that he's away on business. Wow! Amazing! Newsworthy!
The Steam Winter Sale is Here
This probably doesn't come as a surprise, but the Steam winter sale is here. It's the same as it usually is, but there won't be any lightning deals or daily deals or anything—sales on most items should stay the same for the duration of the event, which apparently will last until 10am PST on January 4th. So if your identity hasn't already been compromised by Steam's security fuckup, you can get yourself some games!
Bandai Namco Annouces New Katamari Game
There's a new Katamari game in the works, and it might not be what you were expecting—or hoping for. Bandai Namco released the trailer for Tap My Katamari this week. As the name might imply, it's a mobile game. An "action puzzle clicker" mobile game (their words, not mine)! So if you were hoping for a Katamari-themed cookie clicker clone, possibly with microtransactions, you're in luck! If you weren't (and you probably weren't), you may not be so happy.
