SEGA Announces Two New Sonic Games That Hopefully Won't Be Terrible
In a trainwreck of a stream (sponsored by Totinos), SEGA announced two new Sonic games: Sonic Mania, and Project Sonic 2017. Sonic Mania is a combination and re-imagining of the original 2D Sonic games that people loved so much. Project Sonic 2017—and I'm not sure if the 2017 is part of the name or not—is a 3D platformer with the kind of seriousness that makes me really doubt that it's going to be any good. After all, the last 3D sonic game that people refer to by "Sonic" followed by a year was not the kind of game that anyone wants to see happen ever again.
Kentucky Route Zero Act 4 is Here, Finally
In another life, I did a review of Kentucky Route Zero. I decided it was a pretty good game. The problem: there's supposed to be five acts, but it's taken forever to get the last three acts. For a game that was released back in January of 2013, it took five months to get to the second act, another year to get to the third... and over two years to get to the just-released Act 4. If we're keeping with the trend, that should mean that the fifth act will be released four years from now.
RimWorld Developer Forced to Stop Giving Steam Keys To Buyers Due To Fraud
Remember a few weeks ago when tinyBuild stated that hackers were stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars of keys from their website? It's happening again, and this time to the developer of the Prison Architect in space game RimWorld. The developer has shut down a feature where players could buy the game through the developer's site and get a Steam key for free, stating that "fraudsters who are obviously more experienced at this than I" were stealing Steam keys from their website. There's no link to G2A in this one, though you can purchase RimWorld on G2A at a discount—it's just not clear if it's stolen.
Pokémon Is Getting a Live-Action Film Based On Detective Pikachu
Remember Great Detective Pikachu, the Japan-only entry in the Pokémon series, starring a crime-solving Pikachu? You might not, but regardless, Legendary Entertainment has obtained the rights to the franchise and are planning on making a live-action version of Detective Pikachu. You may remember we reported on the possibility of a live action film back in April. Back then, it was a bidding war between Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros., who published the original Pokémon movies in the west. And, since turning anime into quality live action films has always worked out, I can't see how this will go badly!
Twitch Gambling Crackdown Results in One of the Largest Twitch Streamers Getting Banned
If you remember from last week, Valve and Twitch are starting to crack down on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive gambling sites, due to fallout from a scandal in which popular streamers were winning rigged pots to attempt to draw people into the gambling sites. At least one important person has been banned because of this; PhantomL0rd, the seventh largest streamer on Twitch, has been banned due to "terms of service violations," referring to recent Twitch rule changes that prohibit gambling on air.
